Voice & Swallowing Disorders

Symptoms include;
      Difficulty swallowing
      Pain with swallowing
      Foreign body sensation in the throat
      Mucus in the throat/ post nasal drip
      Throat clearing
      Hoarseness

If you have any of these symptoms, it could be due to another condition such as;
      Allergies
      Sinusitis
      Inflammation in your nose/sinuses
      Reflux (LPR/GERD)
      Vocal cord lesions (polyps, nodules, granulomas, cysts, papillomas etc)
      Muscle tension dysphonia
      We must rule out other causes as well (malignancy or other voice/swallowing disorders)

When a patient presents with voice and swallowing disorders, we make sure to do a thorough exam with a procedure called “Flexible Laryngoscopy”.
A small camera is used to look in the nose, throat and larynx.
(We anesthetize the nose with a spray first)
