Allergy Treatment

What is Immunotherapy?

Controlled exposure in both type and amount to your specific allergens in order to reduce the severity of your allergy symptoms by developing immunity/ tolerance to the allergens.

  • This is why it requires a commitment. We are specifically treating what you are allergic to instead of just treating the symptoms with medications.

We Offer 2 Types of Immunotherapy:

1. Allergy Shots:

Build-up Phase: Injections 1-2 times per week during our office hours depending on how fast you want to escalate with increasing amounts of the antigen given. The length of time depends on how often you are receiving injections but it is typically 3-6 months.

Maintenance Phase: Once the effective dose is reached you have reached the maintenance phase. There will be longer periods of time between shots ranging from 2-4 weeks and this will go on for 3-5 years.

2. Allergy Drops:

These are drops that go under your tongue and are done at home. You start with a more dilute vial and then remain on your maintenance vial for 3-5 years. (We will provide instructions regarding drop administration/ how many drops etc)  Allergy drops have been shown to be easier, higher compliance rate and less risk.

The reasons for allergy drops over allergy shots; fear of shots, do not want shots and/ or do not have time to follow the shot schedule.
