What is Nasal Airway Obstruction?

Nasal breathing delivers approximately 70% of airflow to the lungs. More than 20 million Americans are estimated to suffer from nasal airway obstruction, which limits airflow through the nose with significant quality of life consequences. Nasal obstruction refers to blockage of the nose or nasal cavity and can be caused by a variety of problems such as anatomical blockage, sinus blockage or irritants. Nasal irritants include pollutants and allergens and cause swelling of the lining of the nose causing obstruction. Anatomical components leading to nasal obstruction include a deviated septum, blocked sinuses, enlarged turbinate’s, or nasal valve incompetence.

Dr. Bublik provides many in-office and minimally invasive options to help you breath with minimal to no down time.

Treatments Include:

What is a Septoplasty?

Septoplasty is a procedure to straighten a crooked or bent nasal septum, the wall inside the nose that separates the nostrils. The septum is the wall of bone and cartilage that separates the nasal cavity into two different nostrils, when it becomes becomes severely deviated, one nasal passage is much smaller than the other which leads to problems breathing through the nose, frequent nosebleeds, and other sinus symptoms. If the cartilage or bone is not straight, the septum is considered deviated and in need of a procedure called Septoplasty.

Coblation Turbinate Reduction

Swollen or blocked turbinates in the nose can cause difficulty breathing, which in turn can also cause snoring and various recurring sinus problems, plus running noses and the like. The effect while sleeping can be similar to mild sleep apnea. Breathing is obstructed, and as a result, you often awake in the morning tired and feel miserable all day.

Fortunately, as Dr. Bublik explains to his patients, modern science has advanced to the point that blocked turbinates can be quickly diagnosed and unblocked (opened) through an office procedure known as Turbinate Coblation.

Balloon Sinuplasty

Balloon Sinuplasty is a minimally invasive sinus procedure now available to eligible patients performed by Dr. Bublik at his Glendale, CA office under local anesthesia. Dr. Bublik also is happy to provide in office Balloon Sinuplasty to patients throughout the Los Angeles area.

This remarkable sinusitis treatment has achieved consistently outstanding results for countless patients, while requiring little or no anesthesia and minimal recovery time. This treatment is performed in place of more invasive and aggressive surgeries that involve general anesthesia with lengthy recovery processes.

Endoscopic Sinus Surgery?

Functional endoscopic sinus surgery, or FESS, is a surgical procedure used to remove blockages in the sinuses. A thin camera with a light on the end called an Endoscope, will be used to magnify and see inside the sinuses. Specialized instruments will then be used to remove any sinus blockages such as nasal polyps or scar tissue. Straightening the septum and reducing the size of the turbinates may also be done, if needed. FESS is performed completely through the nostrils and does not involve cutting the skin. If Dr. Bublik, decides that you are a candidate for this procedure, he will discuss with you his recommendations, along with the associated risks.

Vivaer® Nasal Airway Remodeling

The Vivaer® treatment, performed in Dr. Bublik’s office, does not require any incisions. The inside of your nose is gently reshaped using low-temperature radiofrequency energy with lasting results, without affecting the outward appearance of your nose.

LATERA® Nasal Implant

The LATERA® Absorbable Nasal Implant is used to support upper and lower lateral cartilage in the nose, reinforcing the nasal wall like traditional cartilage and polymer grafts. Supporting the cartilage in this manner may reduce nasal airway obstruction symptoms and help patients breathe better.
