What Is Sinusitis?

The sinuses are air spaces behind the bones of the upper face, between the eyes and behind the forehead, nose and cheeks. The sinuses are covered with a mucus layer and cells that contain little hairs on their surfaces called cilia. These help trap and push out bacteria and pollutants.

Step-By-Step Process

When performing balloon sinuplasty, Dr. Bublik will insert a catheter through the opening of the nose into the sinus opening and then thread a sinus guide wire into the targeted sinus, providing light transmission and illumination that will help Dr. Bublik ensure correct placement of the guide catheter. Once access to the intended location is confirmed, a balloon catheter is introduced into the sinus cavity and inflated to open the narrow or blocked passage. Simple. No tissue removal. No bleeding. Michael Bublik M.D. is only one of very few physicians in the world who is Triple Board Certified. Dr. Bublik is a fellowship-trained facial plastic surgeon and a member of the highly elite American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, a selective group consisting of 2,700 qualifying surgeons throughout the world and is board certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ABFPRS). Its members are board certified, focusing on surgery of the face, head and neck. He is also board-certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, one of the oldest medical specialties in the United States. Otolaryngologists are physicians uniquely trained in the surgical and medical treatment of patients with disorders and diseases of the head and neck. His third board certification is in Allergy and Immunology from the prestigious American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy.

Dr. Bublik’s interest in this field began when he was an undergraduate at UCLA and continued throughout medical school at the Keck School of Medicine at USC in Los Angeles. While an undergraduate he spent hundreds of hours working with lasers and their application to treat diseases in the head and neck area. In fact, his research was so well recognized that during medical school he was the recipient of an NIH grant. His fascination with the head and neck area and facial aesthetics, with its intricate surgery and positive impact on patients solidified his decision to pursue triple board certification.
